570 Taxpayers of Integrity and 33 Taxpayers of Exemplarity ‘Rewarded’ for Their Devotion in Creating Jobs and Economic Vitality.
Rising Share of Small & Medium Business Enterprises’ Receiving Awards.
A lot of new faces appeared at the podium of 46th Taxpayer’s Day receiving Taxpayers of Integrity awards from the government for honestly fulfilling taxpaying obligation. The (Gold, Silver, Copper, Iron and Tin) Order of Industrial Service Merits, used to be dominated by those large scale enterprises, have been awarded mostly to the small and medium business enterprises.
Several years ago a medium size enterprise received the Gold Order of Industrial Merit, the most honorable merit at the Taxpayer’s Day, however, it was the first time that almost all the industrial merit awards were swept by the small and medium business enterprises like this year. Separate from the Taxpayers of Integrity, those 33 ‘Taxpayers of Exemplarity’ were also commended by the government for their anonymous activities devoting to communities such as variety of donation activities and etc.
The Korean Government hosted the 46th Taxpayer’s Day Ceremony at COEX located in Samseong-dong, Seoul on last 5th, awarding 570 entrepreneurs (12 Orders, 8 Medals, 16 Presidential Commendations, 12 Prime Minister’s Commendations, 223 Minister of Finance’s Commendations, and 299 Commissioner of National Tax Service’s Commendations) from diverse economy spectrum particularly including many of small and medium business enterprises for their meritorious services in settling the advanced taxpaying norm in Korea.
Particularly in this year, the shares of small and medium business enterprises (474 persons, 83.2%) and manufacturing industries (355 persons, 62.3%) awarded for devotion in creating jobs and help activating economy vitality has been sharply increased in comparison with last year.
The criteria defining the Taxpayer of Integrity has been changed from the order of paying taxpaying amount applied in previous years (Conventional criteria: Amount of tax paid – KW30million for corporate and KW7million for individual) to verifying whether the taxes imposed have been paid in orderly fashion. The result of such change was demonstrated by fading away of trend of the large scale enterprises’ sweeping merits and commendations, as filling the void with small and medium business enterprises.
The share of awards for those foreign enterprises operating in Korea as well has gone up in consideration of their devotion to paying substantial amount tax and employment effect, which had been around only 2.1% out of total numbers of awards in 2007 through 2011 but increased to 5.3% this year. (Total 30 foreign enterprises were awarded.)
Further, the high cash taxpayers (10 persons) from cash income services and luxurious consumable services, which have been practically excluded from subject of any awards so far, have been designated as the winner of awards through strict screening procedure of Taxpayer of Integrity, rewarding for honesty taxpaying conduct.
At the same time, the Korean Government awarded 33 ‘Taxpayers of Exemplarity’ as selected in compliance of own in-house criteria and procedure established by the National Tax Services.
In particular, the government had a time to explain the awarding process of this year, employing the Citizens’ Recommendation Process in designating the Taxpayer’s of Integrity, and as well going through a more strict process such as introducing the Liability Recommendation System for probation procedure.
Meantime at the same Taxpayer’s Day Ceremony, the Gold Order of Industrial Merit, the most honorable prize, was awarded to Park, Hwan Ki, the Representative Director of Autonics Co., Ltd., a Busan based electronic device manufacturing medium size enterprise.
